Discovery Tour at Palmetto Hall

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. -- The International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) hosted the fourth and final installment of the Fall 2013 season's Discovery Tour at Palmetto Hall on Nov. 2, 2013. The nine-hole Event took place on the Palmetto Hall Plantation Club's Arthur Hills Course, and the three young competitors aged 9-11 did not fail to impress with their skills and determination.

Winning the event was reigning Discovery Tour champion Jonathan Griz of Bluffton, S.C., who shot a final 3-over-par 39. His performance included a birdie on the par-4 No. 2, and was followed up by a streak of three consecutive pars on holes Nos. 3-5. Despite reaching a rough patch of bogeys shortly thereafter, Griz was able to reel in a par on the closing hole, earning himself a final one-stroke win. This was the second victory in a row for the 9-year-old, after winning the first Discovery Tour at Hilton Head National on Sept. 7. Griz is in his second season with the IJGT, and has been a lights-out veteran on the Discovery Tour, winning all but one event during the 2012-2013 season.

Coming in a close second was Aaron Elmore of Rincon, Ga., who carded a final score of 40 for the event. Elmore opened up with a par on hole No. 1 before sinking an impressive birdie on the par-4 No. 2. Before his round wrapped up, he would end up with another birdie and par on Nos. 6 and 7, respectively. This was the second Discovery Tour event of the season for Elmore, who was runner-up to Griz in the first event on Sept. 7. Competing in his second season with the IJGT, Elmore is also a veteran to the Discovery Tour series; he played in six events last season, winning one and coming in second in four others. Elmore also notably grabbed a second place finish in the Boys 14 & Under Division at Falcon's Fire in Kissimmee, Fla., on May 11-12, 2013.

Landing in third place was Hanru Guo of Bluffton, S.C., who posted a final 44 for the Event. The highlights of Guo's round came on the course's par-3's and par-5's, where he was able to par each of the four of them. This was the first event of the season for Guo, who is in his second year with the IJGT. During the 2012-2013 season, Guo competed in three Discovery Tour events, finishing in the top five in two of them.
